Title: Traffic rush on Akashi Kaikyo B
|
Traffic rush on Akashi Kaikyo Bridge Saturday, April 11,
was a balmy day in western Japan and 31,400 cars pass through
the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the world's longest suspension bridge,
by the evening. The 3,911-meter-long bridge, which links Kobe
with Awaji island, was opened to traffic April 5. Authorities
anticipate a daily traffic volume of 30,000 cars on average but
the highest recorded daily volume was 27,000 prior to April 11's
rush. Mickey Mouse looks definitely unhappy as holiday makers who
had spent a day at Tokyo Disneyland found empty Shinkansen tracks
at JR Tokyo Station as they headed back home April 11. More than
80,000 passengers were stranded after a bullet train on the
Tohoku Shinkansen made an emergency stop between Tokyo's Ueno
station and JR Tokyo station at around 3:15 p.m. 50 Shinkansen
train runs were canceled, and 84 delayed for up to 3 hours.
